Volunteer With HENC
We offer a range of ways to get involved, from ongoing leadership roles to lower-commitment opportunities. Explore the options below and find the level that fits your time and interests — we truly appreciate any time you’re willing to give to help grow the organization.
Highest Commitment
Long-Term Leadership & Organizational Roles
These are ongoing roles for volunteers who want to help shape HENC’s direction — leading events, building out our infrastructure, expanding our reach, and growing the organization behind the scenes. Specific job descriptions are still being finalized, but here’s a general sense of what each area involves.
Online Professional Development Series
Lead or organize one of our quarterly virtual sessions on trends in higher education. Sessions are usually held in the evening (EST) via Zoom, with the board supporting advertising and marketing.
Professional Development Day (Conference)
Help plan and run our flagship in-person conference — from reviewing session proposals to day-of event logistics and advertising, with support from the board throughout.
Regional In-Person Events
Lead or help plan networking events in your region (Boston, Springfield, Worcester, and beyond). We’re especially looking for leads to help us expand our footprint into new cities.
Organization Support & Infrastructure
Support HENC’s back-end operations — membership growth, marketing, social media, and website development — and help us formalize our structure as we grow.
Medium Commitment
Join a Committee
As we continue to grow, we’re forming committees to help shape our programs and initiatives. Members attend 1-hour meetings every 2–3 weeks through the fall, contribute to discussions and direction-setting, and help develop a final recommendation for presentation to the HENC Board by the end of the year.
🔎 Research Committee
Help define HENC’s research agenda and approach, including opportunities for original research, grant funding, a journal, or other research models — and identify how HENC can distinguish its work from other organizations.
🤝 Mentorship Committee
Help shape what a HENC mentorship program could look like, exploring options such as 1:1 pairings, group mentoring, job shadowing, coffee chats, or other formats for professionals at different career stages.
Form closes August 28. Submitting the form does not guarantee committee placement — opportunities are based on committee needs, number of interested volunteers, and overall fit.
Lowest Commitment
Become an Institutional Representative
Looking for a lower-commitment way to get involved? Become an Institutional Representative and help share HENC events and initiatives at your college or university — low commitment, high impact. We’re looking for one representative per institution to serve as a key contact and help spread the word, since word-of-mouth is our main driver of new members.
